This is where USB to Ethernet adapters come to the rescue.  This is especially useful when you are at a place where Wi-Fi is not available. Or for techies when they need to connect to some devices for maintenance or troubleshooting where the connectivity option is only via ethernet cables.

A USB to Ethernet adapter is a small device that allows you to connect your computer or laptop to an Ethernet network using a USB port. The adapter typically has a USB connector on one end and an Ethernet (RJ45) port on the other.  All you need to do is plug in the USB to Ethernet adapter into an available USB port on your computer, and connect the ethernet cable to the ethernet port end of the USB to Ethernet adapter.

Most USB to Ethernet adapters are “plug-and-play,” . That means, you can simply plug the USB to Ethernet Adapter into an available USB port on your computer, and it will automatically work.  Usually, there are no complex additional configurations required. However, it’s a good idea to check the manufacturer’s instructions and your computer’s compatibility to ensure proper functionality.

Once the USB to Ethernet adapter is connected, you should be able to see network icon in your computer just like when you connect ethernet cable to a regular computer. You will also see a new network adapter in the Control Panel network adapters. In Windows computer, this is visible at “Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections”.

Once connected, the adapter allows your computer to establish a wired Ethernet connection to a network, such as a local area network (LAN), router, or modem. This can provide a more stable and faster internet connection compared to Wi-Fi in some cases.

USB to Ethernet adapters are generally compatible with various operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux, but it’s always a good idea to check for driver support if you’re using a less common or older operating system.

The speed of the Ethernet connection depends on the capabilities of the adapter and the USB port it’s connected to. Most modern USB 3.0 and USB-C adapters can support Gigabit Ethernet speeds (up to 1,000 Mbps), while older USB 2.0 adapters may have slower speeds.

If you have a laptop computer with no ethernet port, then just buy and solve the issue with these USB to Ethernet adapter.
